Update - 27 January 2003
650
new sneakers for the homeless collected ...
And We Thank You!
We're packing our cars (3 tightly packed cars
so far) with sneakers today and getting ready to distribute them to the
homeless in New York City early tomorrow morning. We'll be on the street at
6:15 and begin distributing sharply at 7:00 a.m. We couldn't have done it
without the support, prayers and kindness of others. And we thank you
all.
Shannon still hopes to reach her goal of 1,000 by the end of next month when
we bring the second batch of "soles" to Philadelphia.
Thank you to all of you who responded to this call and said "yes."
Thank you for sending sneakers, socks and cash donations. Thank you for
sharing Mychal's Message with your friends, your co-workers, and your
family. Thank you for the $3.00 donation up to the $500.00 donation. Every
donation came from the heart ... and we thank you.
From the tiny little pink and white size 2 baby sneakers to the navy and
white size 14 men's sneakers ... we thank you. To the Cub Scout Pack
in New Jersey who collected almost 70 pair ... and the Sons of Italy in
Phoenix, Arizona who sent the largest box of socks we'd ever seen ...
thank you. To the Armata Bianca group in New Jersey who collected over
50 pair ... and to my Aunt in Uncle in South Carolina who went to KMart and
brought us 72 pair ... to the woman in Normandy Beach, NJ who collected over
50 pair ... and to the local Transplant Support Group which collected almost
10 pair ... thank you. For the $500 donation from a pastor in
Virginia Beach, VA ... and to a friend from New Jersey who shared Mychal's
Message with all of her friends and family at Christmas time and who donated
many Avon shampoo samples for the homeless ... thank you. For the
pair of sneakers that came from a woman whose husband wore them only once
before passing away ... and who wondered if we could use them - yes, we used
them ... and we thank you. For the $200 donation from close friends
in Pennsylvania ... and for the 13 pair collected from the writer of
Shannon's story in Girls' Life ... thank you. To the Marianists in
Cape May Point, NJ who sent us 8 pair and put us over 500 that day ... to a
friend who collected socks at her college ... thank you. To a local
sneaker store for donating many pairs to help us meet our quota for New York
City ... we thank you. For the two warm winter coats donated ... we
will bring them with us and give them to two men without coats - yes, there
will be men tomorrow without coats ... and we thank you. For the
hand made fleece hats which came from Wisconsin and the box of hats and
gloves which came from Brooklyn, NY ... the town where Father Mychal was
born ... we thank you.
From the West Coast to the East Coast, you all sent sneakers ... and we
thank you. From California ... Massachusetts ... New York ... Virginia
... Pennsylvania ... Missouri ... Ohio ... New Jersey ... Florida ...
Illinois ... Arizona ... Michigan ... North Carolina ... Wisconsin ... Texas
... Mississippi ... Washington ... Vermont ... Nebraska ... Maine ...
Indiana ... Georgia ... Connecticut ... Louisiana ... Virginia ... Colorado
... Tennessee ... Delaware ... South Carolina ... New Hampshire ... Maryland
... Minnesota ... North Dakota ... and Washington DC ... we received all
your packages and we thank you.
All "Soles for Souls" packages being distributed tomorrow contain one pair
of sneakers, one pair of socks, and one prayer card. To the kind friend who
prints all our prayer cards free of charge ... we thank you.
There are so many men, women and children who came together and made this
project possible. Our web site - all done by a friend ... our project logos
- all done by another friend ... our non-profit status - thanks to another
friend who is an attorney ... so many of you have said "yes,"
and all we can say is ... thank you. We can only imagine the big,
wide Irish smile on Father Mychal's face as he's looking down on all of
this.
Please keep us in prayer tomorrow as we bring these new sneakers to the
homeless in Father Mychal's memory.
God bless you all for your kindness and support.
