Mychal's Message says, "Thanks"
as we head to NYC This Thursday.

10 September, 2003

"Do small things with great love" is how Father Leo Goodman, a local parish priest, began his homily this Sunday morning.  As we were anxiously awaiting our pilgrimage into Manhattan this Thursday, 9-11, these words, first spoken by Mother Teresa, lit up our souls with a new enthusiasm.  The bags are packed and ready to go, thanks to all of you --- all of you who support us and believe in this ministry.  Thanks to everyone who sent underwear, socks, or checks.

Each package of "Blessed Bloomers" contains 2 pair of underwear, an undershirt, and a pair of socks.  We added candy and a Fr. Mychal prayer card to each bag.  All "Tiny Treasures" received (such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, shavers, lotion, perfume, hairbrushes, combs, powder, shampoo, soap and Kleenex) were added to the bags to make them even fuller.  It is with great faith that we believe the right bag will go to the right person. God will surely guide us as we give each bag to a man or woman on the Breadline early Thursday morning.

"Do small things with great love".... the small things will be a touch on the hand of a homeless person . a smile ... a hug ... a pat on the shoulder ... a "God bless you" ...or a "Have a nice day."  We will tell all of them that folks from all over America and Europe have sent these packages especially for them.  We will act as Fr. Mychal would have.  We will love them all ... an easy task.  We wish all of you could feel the love that will be on the street Thursday morning.  Thank you for helping us to help them!

We will bring not only underwear and love to them on 9-11.  We will also bring some light weight jackets that have been donated.  The nights are getting cool here in the north east.  Again, God will help us get these jackets, fleeces and sweatshirts to the right people on the Line.

As if the packages of Blessed Bloomers weren't enough, we decided to add something else for this special anniversary - homemade muffins and fresh fruit!  The muffins will be freshly baked in our kitchens, and each man and woman will receive one on Thursday morning along with a fresh banana.

This Thursday - thanks AGAIN to your generosity - we also will present Fr. Peter with a $500 check: the first proceeds from the Mychal's Message CD. This is enough money to feed 50 souls on the Breadline for a week! We are so excited about this first check, because we know it is just the beginning. (For more information about the CD or to hear samples, visit our site and click the CD link on the homepage: www.mychalsmessage.org .)

Please remember us in your prayers on Wednesday as we begin our pilgrimage and on Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. as we greet our brothers and sisters on the Breadline.  As a group, we will attend mass at St. Francis Church that day and thank God for all of you.  We will pray for God to continue to take us where He wants us to go ... with your help.  God bless you.
