FOUR (!!!) New Projects to Allow Father Mychal’s Message to Continue

Honestly, we had just decided to cut back to 2 projects per year to give our family and our devoted volunteers and donors a break. But God had other plans and brought these projects to us. We trust that you will choose the project or projects that you feel called to participate in. You can read all about them on our site, www.mychalsmessage.org, but here are some quick summaries:

That Second Coat
through October 2003 (to be distributed at the end of October)
St. Basil the Great is quoted as having said, "That second coat in your closet does not belong to you - it belongs to the poor."  In this project, we are collecting gently used men's Winter coats to be distributed to the homeless.

One-Hundred Souls
through November 2003 (to be distributed at the end of November)
Help one of 100 boys at a PA State Rehabilitation Center get some new sneakers, socks and underwear. Most of these boys have been abandoned by their families (some have lost their parents to death while others have been in and out of foster homes all their lives). This is just a little way of reminding them that they matter and are loved.

Holy Hats
through January 2003 (to be distributed at the end of January)
Did you know that most of our body heat escapes through our heads?  Donate new hats, gloves, mittens and/or scarves to complement a stash of hand-made hats coming from one of our AMAZING supporters, and help warm the hearts and heads of others this season!

Project Under Cover
through January 2003 (this is Shannon’s Anniversary project!)
This year, Shannon has decided to collect donations to purchase fleece blankets for the homeless. Each blanket, with an embroidered Mychal's Message logo, will cost $13.00 and will have a carrying handle attached to it.  Shannon chose her favorite color for the blankets - purple - how regal and fitting for our homeless friends - for "blessed are the poor!"  A donation of $13.00 will provide one blanket for the homeless.  For a donation of $25.00 (plus shipping), one of these special blankets will also be sent to you.

September 11, 2003 Recaps

The Second Anniversary of 9/11
Submitted by Carol Mackie, Mychal's Message Volunteer
What a gift today was!  On the second anniversary of the September 11 tragedy, we were on the Breadline at St. Francis of Assisi Church in New York City giving our homeless friends a package of "Blessed Bloomers" - underwear, socks, undershirts and "Tiny Treasure" toiletries.  We also had homemade muffins (with butter!) and fresh bananas and many jackets, fleece vests, sweaters and sweatshirts.  Thanks to so many people - the gifts given to us allowed us to continue to honor the memory of Fr. Mychal Judge by ministering to the homeless men and women he loved and cared about.  Now ... we love and care about them too.   …

Lancaster Families Honor Mychal's Memory by Distributing 'Blessed Bloomers' to Breadline
From Holy Name Province Today
NEW YORK-This Thursday, September 11, Mychal's Message was once again at the daily breadline of St. Francis Church here, distributing goods to the homeless in memory of Mychal Judge.  Members of the organization distributed "Blessed Bloomers"-new socks, underwear and undershirts-to guests on the breadline between 7 and 7:30 a.m. in front of the church at 135 West 31st Street. …

CD Update

Sales of our fundraising CD, “Poverty, Chastity, Obedience: Remembering Father Mychal Judge, OFM” have done well. On September 11, 2003 we presented Father Peter with a check for $500.00, the first proceeds from the CD.

Information about the CD (including audio clips and ordering instructions) is available here.

Mychal’s Message Address Change

Mychal's Message has a new mailing address:

Mychal's Message
PO Box 6404
Lancaster, PA  17607

You can begin using this mailing address immediately.  If you have recently sent donations to our previous address, don't worry - we will still get items sent to the old address for a few more months. Please be sure to update your records and send all future donations to the new address listed above.

And this is a good time to thank you once again for you continued support of Mychal's Message. Isn’t it wonderful that we have to include this note, letting our generous supporters know our new address, because we know they will continue to support this ministry in the future?! We thank you in the memory of Father Mychal and on behalf of the homeless. God bless you.
