Their Little Stand at the Garage Sale
September 2004

By Andrea Petrillo, Julianne’s Mom

This story began as children getting together during the summer for something to do.  It started with the idea of a lemonade stand.  Two families together decided to join the neighborhood garage sale.  When they were talking, the four children – Jackie (age 12), Andie (age 10), Julianne (age 8), and Emily (age 8) – decided to sell water, cookies, soda, candy bags, stuffed animals and Happy Meal toys.  The children also made bracelets and magnets to sell.

They placed signs up stating that the proceeds from their sale would be donated to Mychal’s Message.  Each child took turns explaining their intentions to the garage sale shoppers.  They were also given a prayer card of Fr. Mychal.

After a day of hard work, their profits were a grand total of $150.00!  It was a great experience for all the children involved.
